Galileo's Finger
This is a thread for any sort of odd trivia that you find entertaining. I'll start with Galileo's finger.
After his death, the body of famous scientist Galileo was stuffed in a closet, where it sat for 95 years before some wealthy Italians decided to move it to a proper mausoleum. They thought it would be cool to cut off some of his fingers and pull out a tooth at the same time for souveneirs. Since then his left middle finger, the most prized member apparently, has been getting swapped back and forth among Italian collectors, and has been on display in a decorative glass container, giving a whole new meaning to the term "fingering". The right middle finger, thumb, and tooth were kept and passed down in another Italian family for generations, where they would be brought out from time to time at parties or to scare children, but eventually these relics were lost. Well, they have now been rediscovered, and will soon be on display in the Museum of the History of Science in Florence, although there are not yet any public photos. But at least I can share a photo of Galileo's influential left middle finger in all its glory. Galileo: flipping off skeptics since 1623.

Wow.
Who would do such a thing? Not I anyway. Creepy. Although, I have dug up my fair share of dead people. First one was when I was 13.

My father is an Archaeologist. I worked on a site when I was 13. They put me and my step brother off the real meat of the site thinking we could not mess to much up over there. Well, we found a Revolutionary War guy. We did not remove him, but documented and all.
I later worked with my father for 4 1/2 years. On many different sites, digging up all sorts of things, to include the occasional grave.
